Graduate students Kelly Smith and Matt Barstead each made research presentations at the Biennial Meeting of the Society for Research in Adolescence (March 30-April 1, 2016). Kelly’s symposium presentation was entitled: ‘Personality traits as moderators of the relation between social withdrawal and internalizing problems.’ Kelly’s co-authors included Matt Barstead and Ken Rubin. Matt’s poster presentation was entitled: ‘Internal Motivations for Withdrawal Carry Greater Social Costs for Girls Compared with Boys during the Transition to Middle School.’ Matt’s presentation was co-authored by lab members, Samantha Hamburger, Dani Novick, and Ken Rubin.
Congratulations to Sara Heverly-Fitt who successfully defended her dissertation (April 12, 2016): ‘Observed social problem solving and friendship quality in children with a traumatic brain injury.’ Sara becomes the lab’s 27th doctorate!

Rising senior, Samantha Hamburger has won a University of Maryland Summer Research Scholarship. She will be completing her research project on the relations between biological processes and preschoolers’ socially anxious behaviors in the Laboratory for the Study of Child and Family Relationships in July-August 2016. Rising junior, Lindsay Druskin has received two summer scholarships to intern at Adoptions Together in Washington, DC. The scholarships were awarded by the B.A. Rudolph Foundation and the Jeffrey A. Clean Foundation. Congratulations Lindsay!
